Wooden model kit of the very famous Cutty Sark ship in 1:84 scale. The naval model kit of the 19th century British clipper, one of the fastest of its time. This model kit is intended for expert modelers.

The Legend of the Cutty Sark

Built in 1869 in Dumbarton, Scotland, the cutty Sark clipper competed in the fierce tea trade between China and London. Overshadowed by the steamers using the Suez Canal, then served in the Australian wool trade. Completely restored in 1954, she resides in a custom-built dry dock in Greenwich, London, open to the public. Her sleek lines, breakneck speed and intricate detailing forged her unique legend.

Welcome to the new edition of the Cutty Sark assembly instructions from Artesanía Latina

Originally designed in 2009, this iconic model will be renewed in 2026. We have revised and modernized these instructions to make the building experience even more enjoyable, clear and precise. These improvements also incorporate the evolutions of our manufacturing processes, guaranteeing you an assembly faithful to the historical ship and perfectly adapted to the parts of your current kit.

Complementary online resources

Due to the quality of the original images and the space limitations of paper instructions, some illustrations may appear somewhat small. In order to provide you with the best possible experience, we offer you, in addition to the printed instructions:

- A downloadable PDF version of the complete instructions,

- A set of 498 numbered photos, which correspond exactly to the 498 photos in these paper instructions,

- A detailed photographic list of parts, especially useful for identifying smaller components.

To access these resources, simply go to the Cutty Sark product page on our websitewww.https://artesanialatina.net/en/And click on the INSTRUCTIONS.

Support and nameplate

For an elegant presentation of your finished model, we have included:

- A elegant support

- A brass nameplate engraved with the ship's name.

These elements will allow you to proudly display your Cutty Sark in the best conditions.

Brass photo-etched brass plate

We have replaced a large number of individual brass parts with a single complete brass photo-etched sheet. This solution allows you to identify them more easily, detach them as you need them and keep them safely throughout the construction. In addition, some of these parts have been redesigned to make their assembly more pleasant.

Standardization of wood strips

We have standardized the length of all wood strips to 300 mm, as in the rest of our current models.

When a pitch requires a length greater than 300 mm, the corresponding baguette is supplied in several 300 mm sections. In this case, please refer to the parts list (supplied on a separate sheet): the total length required and the number of sections to be joined are clearly indicated.

CouncilDo not throw away the leftover baguettes until the construction is completely finished. They can always come in handy.

Stitched candles

The hand-sewn candles are now more realistic thanks to the laser engraved inner lines (in older versions of the instructions, these lines were represented as embroidered seams with thread).

Identification of laser-cut parts and brass photo-etched parts

All laser-cut parts have their reference number engraved directly on the wood. The same is true for brass photo-etched parts: their number is engraved on the plate.

In addition, in the photographic list of parts you will find a precise description of the contents of each laser-cut plate and of the brass photoengraving plate, with the corresponding numbers clearly indicated.

These references will allow you to identify and locate each element quickly and without errors throughout the assembly.

Bobbins of yarn and trick for a perfect finish

Each spool includes a small sticker indicating the diameter of the yarn. We recommend sticking this sticker on the inside of the bobbin (on the central core): this way you can instantly identify each thickness, even when the yarn is almost used up.

Our yarns are cotton with a small proportion of polyester, this makes them particularly suitable for rigging. To obtain an impeccable finish, we recommend the following trick: before placing the thread, quickly pass the flame of a lighter along its length. The slight proportion of polyester will melt and "weld" the small protruding threads, eliminating the "hairy" effect and achieving a clean, smooth and very realistic rigging.

You will get a magnificent result and perfectly faithful to the period capes!

Brass rods

We have replaced the old brass wires with 300 mm long brass rods. This modification makes the brass is much easier to mold, cut and shape with precision.

In the parts list you will find their respective diameters and lengths.
