This faithful reduced model of the English ship from 18th and 19th centuries perfectly represents the aforementioned legendary Lord Nelson‘s ship of the line. It is officially licensed by the British National Museum of the Royal Navy. It is, without a doubt, the most famous ship in sailing, the one that participated in the defeat of the Napoleonic -French/Spanish- troops in the Battle of Trafalgar. HISTORY OF THE MOST POWERFUL SHIP OF THE WORLD, THE ONLY ONE STILL IN ONE PIECE

Currently, it is in a dry dock in the port of Portsmouth (Hampshire) in England as a museum piece. The English ship HMS Victory remains the flagship of the Second Lord of the Sea. It is even more important because it is the only ship of the line that has survived to this day in conditions faithful to the originals.

HMS Victory was launched in 1765. The rest of the works such as the rigging, the sails and the armament were progressively completed until in 1778 the ship of the line could be in active service. Specifically, this was a first class ship. The initials of this famous ship refer to “His/Her Majesty’s Ship.” In this case “His”, since the ship first sailed during the reign of George III of the United Kingdom and Ireland (1738-1820).

HMS VICTORY IN THE BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR

HMS Victory soon participated in its first battle, in 1778. Loaded with 104 guns and under the command of different commanders, this three-decker British ship of the line lived through several wars and had various functions. For a few years it became a hospital ship for Spanish and French prisoners of war. It was not until 1805, at Cape Trafalgar, that he achieved worldwide fame for leading the English fleet to victory.

Two years after being assigned to command HMS Victory, vice admiral Horatio Nelson was the leader who participated in the aforementioned Battle of Trafalgar. It was the most decisive of the Napoleonic Wars.

Thirty-four Franco-Spanish ships encountered a much stronger and better prepared British Royal Navy. The defeat was imminent and indisputable. The fleet led by Vice Admiral Nelson won the most important battle. It was the beginning of the decline of the French emperor in Europe.

Vice Admiral Nelson, however, never knew his victory. During the heat of battle, he was shot through his spine and ended his life a few hours later, becoming one of Britain’s greatest war heroes. This battle was the one that put an end to the French and Spanish navies. The United Kingdom would assume maritime supremacy, which would last until World War II.

ONE OF THE SAILBOATS WITH THE MOST VICTORIES IN RACING AND WITH THE MOST RECORDS

Discover the beautiful model of the Pen Duick sailboat, new 2024 model kit and made of wood of the well-known French racing cutter that won in numerous competitions during the 20th century. Likewise, it is a historic vessel because it set many records, led by its captain Éric Tabarly, one of the best sailors in history. Born in Nantes in 1931, Tabarly developed from his childhood a great passion for the sea and navigation. His life motto was the following: “Man needs passion to exist”. Pen Duick is the name of his first boat, a gift from his father, which means ‘Little Black Head’ in Breton. It is also the name of its different sailboats, from the Pen Duick II to the Pen Duick VI.

He entrusted the Pen Duick to the Costantini shipyard of La Trinité-sur-Mer to evaluate the work to be carried out. The hull of the sailboat was rotten to repair traditionally. Unable to finance the work, he proposed Marc and Gilles Costantini take on an unprecedented challenge to save his boat: rebuild a new hull by applying seven successive layers of glass fabric and polyester resin, using the old hull. as a mold. Polyester construction was in its infancy, such a large and heavy sailboat had never been built before. It was the largest hull of its type at that time. The ship was renovated in the old-fashioned way at the Raymond Labbé shipyard in 1983 in Saint-Malo, and celebrated its centenary in May 1998.

On the night of June 12th to 13th 1998, Éric Tabarly died after falling into the sea during a voyage to Ireland with his beloved Pen Duick. He always opposed his sailboat being classified as a ‘Historical Monument’.

Ship Models Intermediate Level: Wide and Varied Catalog of Wooden Naval Modeling Kits (I)

SHIP MODELS INTERMEDIATE LEVEL: WOODEN AND ABS NAVIGABLE-SUITABLE R/C TUGBOAT ATLANTIC (20210)

We start the ship models intermediate level review with the wooden and ABS plastic model of the Atlantic offshore tugboat. It is a faithful replica of the tugboats of the 70s and 80s of the 20th century. It was an offshore tug, not a port tug, so it was prepared to withstand the most adverse weather conditions. Its entire structure was designed to be a stable and very manageable boat in the water, in addition to being able to tow large vessels such as oil tankers or cruise ships in open waters.

The Atlantic Navigable Naval Modelling Kit contains high-precision laser-cut board parts, hardwoods, photo-etched parts, brass and cast iron. Tugboat from the 40s of the last century. Equipped with a powerful steam boiler of 2,000 HP, the vessel could develop speeds of 14 knots while coming to the rescue of much larger ships. In the mid-19th century, navigation experienced a great revolution. The main factor is the implementation of mechanical propulsion. As a consequence, ships gradually increase their size and displacement, losing in the process the ease of maneuvering in docks and ports. As a result of this, tugboats are born. New types of ships of small tonnage and shallow draft but with more than enough driving power and maneuverability to assist ships much larger than themselves.

Our third proposal of intermediate level ship models is the Dutch Botter fishing boat model. These ships sailed for centuries in the shallow coastal waters of the Zuiderzee Sea. The crew, usually between 2 and 4 men, used to keep the catches alive in a livewell located in the center of the boat. Zuiderzee was a large inland sea north of the Netherlands. The completion in 1932 of a large dyke divided it in two, creating a large inland saltwater lake called Ijsselmeeer and adding the rest of the former inland sea to the Wadden Sea.

Its assembly system using false keel and frames, like the vast majority of Artesanía Latina’s scale models of boats, brings its design closer to that of the real ship. The modeling kit contains all the parts necessary for construction. High precision laser cut board pieces, fine woods, brass, cast iron and hand-sewn cotton sails ready to be placed. In addition, it includes as a bonus a beautiful wooden base to build with a nameplate of the Botter fishing boat. Everything fits perfectly in this wonderful naval miniature. WOODEN MODEL ARAB DHOW SULTAN (22165)

The fourth proposal for ship models intermediate level is the exotic Arab dhow Sultan: traditional boat from the coasts of the Arabian Peninsula, India and East Africa. This ship was the primary instrument in trade and the spread of the Islamic faith. Likewise, the dhow was mainly used as a cargo ship, from grain and fish to slaves or minerals. Revolutionary in naval history due to its triangular sails and practically unchanged since its initial designs, it is believed that the dhow was the seed for the construction of the Venetian galleys and caravels, leading to the creation of larger ships with mixed sails.

Sultan is another fantastic ship scale model for modellers to move on to the second level of difficulty in building naval miniatures. Its simple construction system and simple sail make it easy to assemble this beauty of naval modeling. A LITTLE HISTORY OF THE SPANISH SHIP OF THE LINE SANTISIMA TRINIDAD

Launched in 1769, the Santisima Trinidad was one of the few four-decker ships of the line that existed. Despite this, it was not very effective due to its clumsy and slow navigation. Above all, its tragic end in the Battle of Trafalgar (October 21st, 1805) is remembered. On that occasion it was under the orders of the squad leader Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros, and with Francisco Javier de Uriarte y Borja as flag captain. The team of modelers from Artesanía Latina has designed and developed a new concept for the model of this French ship. Everything to make the assembly experience friendly, simple and fun. SAINT MALO MODEL SHIP: WOODEN MODELING KIT CONTENTS

A naval jewel that will delight those who want to start in the wonderful world of naval modeling building your own new 1:20 scale model in wood of the fishing boat –doris class– Saint Malo. Some fishermen still use this type of boat today in the bay of Mont Saint-Michel on the Normandy coast, as well as in Saint Pierre and Miquelon to set trammel lines or lobster and shrimp traps. Modeling and Crafts Glues: White Glue and Cyanoacrylate for Porous Materials

There are many occasions when our modelers friends ask us what adhesives and glues for modeling and crafts to use. Even more, when they are assembling one of our model boats and model planes made of wood. Well, the time has come in this blog post to talk about it. If you want your parts are completely united with the best results, there is no doubt, the glues made by Artesanía Latina are at the forefront.

Next, we indicate you which are the glues for modeling and crafts that you can obtain on our website, pay attention.

GLUES FOR MODELING AND CRAFTS: WHITE GLUE

The first option you have is white glue for wood and porous materials (27602). Presented in a 250 gr bottle, it is one of the so-called easy-to-apply vinyl adhesives. It dries quickly -by having a short drying time- and you can use it on porous materials such as wood, cardboard, carpet, cork, fabrics and tablex. Its texture is creamy.

It comes with a nozzle for easy opening and closing, thus avoiding any type of spillage or the white glue for wood from drying out. Also, if you have traces of this adhesive on your skin, don’t worry, it is not inconvenient for the skin. And if the glue smells too much, neither, because Artesanía Latina’s white vinyl glue does not release toxic fumes.

As for its uses, it can be used, as we discussed, when you are building models made of wood and making crafts such as sewing and fashion, cork and rubber creations, and an endless number of other tasks and hobbies. In this sense, we recommend that if you apply the glue with a brush, keep it moist in water.

GLUES FOR MODELING AND CRAFTS: CYANOACRYLATE FOR POROUS MATERIALS 50 GR. AND SPRAY ACCELERATOR

Another of the fantastic glues for modeling and crafts. When you require even faster drying than white glue, this is your option. The set with the dense cyanoacrylate bottle and its 50 gr. of product and with the cyanoacrylate accelerator spray of 200 ml (27602) by Artesanía Latina. The adherence you will obtain is maximum and instantaneous!

It is perfect for gluing wood and other porous materials such as cardboard, carpet, cork, fabrics and tablex. The dense cyanoacrylate has a nozzle for easy opening and closing, thus preventing any type of spillage or that the cyanoacrylate itself dries up. And a cannula for its measured and precise application. It is also important to note that our cyanoacrylate does not have solvents.

Being a dense cyanoacrylate and slower drying compared to other cyanoacrylates, the accelerator is essential as it makes the glue dry more quickly. Before using it in your activity, we recommend that you test it.

1. Put a drop of dense cyanoacrylate on the two parts to be glued.

2. Next, apply the cyano accelerator spray to one of the two parts to be joined and wait for the product to evaporate.

3. At that instant, put the two parts together. Be careful because as soon as you stick them they will not be able to detach from each other.

Store and protect the dense cyanoacrylate bottle for better conservation in a place out of direct sunlight, dry and with a cool temperature. Wash your hands repeatedly with lukewarm water in case they get stuck with the product.

CYANOACRYLATE FOR POROUS MATERIALS 20 GR.

Another novelty in terms of glues for modeling and crafts is the bottle of dense cyanoacrylate 20 gr. (27620) by Artesanía Latina. This is an easy-to-apply glue and is used to achieve instant joining of parts. Ideal for gluing wood and other porous materials such as cardboard, carpet, cork, fabrics and tablex. The jar has a spout for easy opening and closing, thus avoiding spills or drying of the product.
