New Modeling Tools: Multi-Function Workbench, A2 Folding Cutting Mat, Waterline Marker and Hull Support

In our effort to facilitate the assembly of models and to bet on the development of precise instruments, we present our friends clients new modeling tools. We try to make this hobby an even more pleasant time for the modeler. With the tools made by Artesanía Latina, you can enjoy much more when you are building the scale model of any ship or plane. These tools make different tasks much easier because they are very specific products.

That is why our team of designers and modelers is always thinking to devise, design, create and manufacture any tool that our loyal customers may need. Many of them have supported this Spanish modeling brand for more than fifty years.

And… What we have created? Well, several new modeling tools that we show below. The Multi-Function Workbench (27646), the A2 Folding Cutting Mat (27642F), the Waterline Marker (27649) and the Boat Hull Support (27011). This last one has been in stock for a long time, but we had never dedicated a space to it on the blog… And it deserves it!

NEW MODELING TOOLS: MULTI-FUNCTION WORKBENCH

New for 2023! The first of the new modeling tools that we teach is the Multi-Function Workbench (27646). Just from now for sale on the web. It is a fantastic and ingenious help for the modeler during the construction process of any model or craft. Because? Because the modeler will have free hands to work.

The Multi-Function Workbench makes possible to support and attach parts to the mentioned support in order to treat them during the cutting and sanding phases, among other actions. Don’t think about it, it is an essential tool at any modeler’s or craftsman’s workshop. Attach it to the work table with two clamps -included-, to later support all kinds of parts.

Do you need precision? Well, the Multi-Function Workbench also provides it. This is so by having support guides for cutting and centering guides for drilling round dowels and strips with different sizes. We recommend, however, that you protect the work table with a cutting mat -sold separately- and set the stand on it before using it. It is a small tool, so it is totally portable.

It requires assembly, so we suggest you use our White Glue (27602) -sold separately-, as it allows the modeler to move and reposition the two parts to stick as they dry slower than with cyano. Precisely, under these lines, you can see the assembly video of this tool:

NEW MODELING TOOLS: A2 FOLDING CUTTING MAT

This is another of the new modeling tools, on sale from end of 2022. Let’s pay a little attention to it because until now we haven’t done it on the blog. It is the A2 Cutting Mat… Foldable! (27642F), also intended for any other type of craft. Just in the previous section, we recommended the use of a mat with the Multi-Function Workbench. Well, this is the perfect one because it is big and you can fold it to store it or take it with you wherever you want! The measurements of without folding in A2 size are 23.62” (60 cms) x 17.71” (45 cms), folded it measures 17.71” (45 cms) x 12” (30.5 cms).

On the other hand, it has a tape attached to the bottom that holds the two parts together and folds when folded. The A2 Folding Cutting Mat is manufactured with PVC that gives its great resistance and durability. Shallow cuts made on the A2 Folding Cutting Mat will virtually disappear over time. However, deep cuts will remain.

WATERLINE MARKER FOR MODEL SHIPS

Another recent news! This time, it is a specific tool for naval modeling: the Waterline Marker for Model Ships (27649). How many times did our client friends request it! Your wishes are orders to us. Already at our warehouses!

It is essential to be able to paint or varnish later and properly the hull of the ship model -if you do not want to do it on the traditional way, not so precisely- with adjustment metric and imperial systems. With the help of this tool and the pencil, draw that line around the ship. To do this, we suggest that you hold the boat on its exhibition base or on the Hull Support (27011) -sold separately-, which we will talk about on the next section. In short, it can be used as a scriber if you want to make lines parallel to the horizontal work.

HULL SUPPORT FOR SHIP MODEL BUILDING

The last of the new modeling tools -naval- that we present is the Hull Support (27011). It is ideal for working on the ship model after assembling its hull. Thanks to this tool, the boat remains completely attached, without any movement. As a ship modeler, it is absolutely necessary, as it allows you to have both hands free during the assembly process.

Made of solid wood and with a clamp length of 300 mm, it allows to hold boats with a false keel up to approximately 400 mm. The boat hull support is valid for models of the 19000, 20100 and some of the 20400 series of Artesanía Latina.

It has a pivot point to tilt the hull to the precise working position. The fastening of the hull and the pivot point of the support are attached by means of thumb screws, without the need for additional tools. Two mini metal clamps are included to attach the support to the edge of the work table.

Corsair Model Ship in Wood Le Renard: The Cutter from Saint Malo, Symbol of French Naval Identity

Prolific year this 2022 -that we are about to finish- for the creation and renovation of ship model building kits by Artesanía Latina’s team. And we end… With another unbeatable surprise for our modelers friends! The renovated French corsair model ship in wood Le Renard (22401). At 1:50 scale, this faithful miniature replica of the Galic cutter is recommended for fans of this hobby with at least an intermediate level of skills and knowledge.

Due to this new edition, you will not be forced to create or manufacture any of the required parts, as was the case with the old one. In addition, we have the Official License of the Association Cotre Corsaire de Saint-Malo. Thanks to it, since 1991, a replica of the original boat still sails the seas and oceans. Chapeau for your work! So let’s get to know the contents with which the corsair model ship Le Renard is assembled. The famous corsair Robert Surcouf, at the service of Napoleon, was in command of this.

CORSAIR MODEL SHIP LE RENARD: MODELING KIT CONTENTS

Le Renard cutter model was a sailboat with which attacked and seized the enemy commercial ships of France. Now it has improved contents. The model building kit contains all the necessary parts to build the corsair model ship. Its greatest achievement was defeating in combat the English schooner HMS Alphea in 1813. Its assembly system by means of a false keel and frames brings its construction closer to that of a real sailboat.

This reedition of the Le Renard naval modeling kit comes with board parts cut by high precision laser, birch wood, brass, cast iron and sails ready to be placed. Of course, the exhibition base with a metal plate is included so that you can display your model once finished.

To achieve this goal, our modelers friends have very complete step-by-step instructions on DVD format for computers. In Spanish, French, English, Italian, Portuguese, German and Dutch. We also include all the explanations related to the simple and fun assembly of the rigging. Remember that printed instructions are not included. Modeling at Christmas! Artesania Latina Wishes You a Happy Holidays and a Prosperous 2022

Of course, modeling at Christmas! What better date to give your loved ones a wooden model of any of our historical boats and aircrafts. And to build some of those fantastic scale models too! It is true that now are days for the reunion with family and friends, but it is no less true that we also have those moments of peace that allow us to dedicate ourselves to our beloved hobby.

Those mornings, afternoons and nights wearing our pyjamas that we stay at home between the different celebrations, we are intoxicated by the spirit of Christmas and our passion for modeling. Almost no external noise because the streets are calm. We feel in a little bubble as we assemble a miniature naval or air replica. And … why not some nice ambient music to liven up? We, the modelers, know that not everything at these parties is being surrounded by people, eating and drinking. Also, there is a time for our relationship ‘as a couple’ with our model. Merry Christmas!

A WISH FOR PEACE AND HAPPINESS FOR OUR MODELIST FRIENDS

Artesania Latina wants to wish you a happy and enjoyable parties, no matter where you are. Whether the modeler lives in a distant nation or is a neighbor. Likewise, we see it very necessary to thank you for all the trust and support that you have given us for 51 years now … almost 52! All those five decades we have felt that the modeler encourages us to continue creating quality products such as ship and fighter models, figurines, modeling tools and accessories, paints and other useful tools.

Modeling survives in the times of technology thanks to our customer friends and those who will be. We have made a great effort to adapt a traditional hobby, which we intend to continue from generation to generation, to the current times. MODELING AT CHRISTMAS: KNOW OUR 2021 SHIP MODELS

During 2021, we have offered our modeler friends several spectacular novelties in model ships and historical airplanes. This year that we left has been fruitful for the creation of fabulous scale models in wood and, also, in metal. Examples of this are faithful high-quality miniature replicas such as that of the French warship Soleil Royal at 1/72 scale and that of the Swedish ship Vasa at 1/65 scale, both for elite modelers. Enjoy giving them and building them because modeling at Christmas … It also exists!

Aimed at modelers with an intermediate level of skills with tools and theoretical knowledge of model building, these new scale models. HMS Endeavour Ship Model: 2021 Renewed Naval Modeling Kit for Modelers Intermediate Level

It was one of Artesania Latina scale models preferred by our modeling friends for decades. Now it will be again! Our team of 3D designers and modelers had the task of renovating the 1/65 scale HMS Endeavour ship model. They knew the importance of this faithful British naval replica. For all this, we are proud to present your new 2021 modeling kit, totally improved and adapted to the demands of these times.

The iconic British exploration and research vessel – formerly a coal boat – with which Captain James Cook discovered Australia can now be built again. The HMS Endeavour naval modeling kit, an 18th century boat, aimed at modelers with an advanced skill level, can be assembled like the real ship at your own workshop. This is due to the fact that the actual construction system of the ship using false keel and frames is the one that has been adopted for the model itself.

The 1/65 scale wooden ship model of the HMS Endeavour has been completely redesigned. Our team has reliably relied on all the existing information about the ship. Target? Make the miniature as similar as possible to the ship that sailed the South Seas. Below we highlight all the improvements made, one by one.

HMS ENDEAVOUR SHIP MODEL: HIGH QUALITY LASER CUT WOOD PARTS WITH EASY LACE

The first thing any modeler looks at as soon as he opens a naval modeling kit is the quality of the wooden parts. The structure that holds the scale model firm is essential along with the parts that cover it.

Well, the parts of the HMS Endeavour ship model are made of high-quality birch and linden wood, as well as the seven oak veneers – to complete the hull – and, also, linden. All of them have been cut on a micron way and comply with that high standard that we propose in our product catalog. This is so because we use a very high precision laser so that, later, all the parts fit together perfectly. Almost effortless. It is as if they attract each other like a magnet.

Another great improvement is that the kit now includes “paper templates that, once positioned, greatly facilitate the marking and cutting of how many holes, slots and perimeter contours, among other actions, must be carried out,” says Artesania Latina team. They also adds that “it is not an easy task when it has to be done using other more rudimentary methods -such as those used on numerous occasions by other companies in the sector- that cause irreparable disruptions in the face of the final scale model finish”.

FINER AND MORE NUMEROUS PHOTO-ETCHED PARTS FOR THE NEW 1/65 HMS ENDEAVOUR SHIP MODEL

This new HMS Endeavour ship model has much more realistic finishes compared to the old one, now discontinued. Meticulousness would be the noun with which they have been thought and reflected in its photo-etched and die-cast details.

Its photo-etched plate contains parts that replace some of the previous model, now they are much finer and more elegant. But also other totally new ones, “thus helping the modeler during the assembly”, comment our modelers. Both types give spectacular finishes to this jewel of naval modeling.

Among others, the improvements made in photo-etched parts focus on the windows, base, horizontal capstan, chains, gratings and lifeboats.

The transom windows and the rear side windows -both before made of die cast opaque-, the skylight -before nonexistent- and the fishing lights now have a more elaborate design. They are very easy to assemble and allow the interior light to pass through different compartments and its transparent acetate.

PRE INSTALLATION FOR SPECTACULAR LED LIGHTING IN WINDOWS

On the new ship model of the British vessel HMS Endeavour we have developed a system for the pre-installation of LED lighting. “Small supports have been added in different rooms of the ship such as the aft cabins, under the skylight and inside the fishing lights”, the 3D designer specifies.

The modeler friend who wishes can attach LED lights in order to make the scale model of the ship comes to life.

If you want to illuminate your 1/65 scale ship model of HMS Endeavour, Artesania Latina offers you the possibility of acquiring the Set of LED Lightning for Scale Models and DIY Projects, not included in your naval modeling kit. This set has fixed lights and candle effect, battery holder and on / off switch to turn it on and off.

Also, don’t forget one last improvement in this regard! The base is prepared so that the modeler can choose between putting the photo-etched part with the nbota name on it or not putting it on if he prefers that the light passes through the name cut into one of the wooden stringers.

BETTER CAPSTANS, CHAINS, GRATINGS AND LIFEBOATS

As we mentioned in the previous section, Artesania Latina team has improved many other photo-etched parts on the HMS Endeavour ship model. This is the case, first, of the horizontal capstan, now much more stylized and easier to work with than with the previous model.

The fusion between photo-etched, wood and die-cast, together with the contrast of colors of the parts that compose it -red and black- with the veneer used on the floor, make this a truly beautiful set compared to what makes the competition.

Chains for the dead eyes are now made of photo-etched and it is presented on various sizes, thus resulting less arduous assembly for the modeler. The contrast of black colors –chains- and gold –links- “enhances the ship when a visual sweep is made along the entire side of the ship,” underlines our 3D Design team.

The gratings have been transformed into rooms, with photo-etched details both on the walls – trim plates – and on the ceiling -hinges-. Speaking of LED lighting, the battery holder is perfectly concealed under what was previously a grating. In this way, the modeler can access to the on / off switch whenever he wants, as well as change the batteries when they are exhausted.

The latest photo-etched improvements are the lifeboats. The modeler only has to choose and apply the appropriate paints on these to achieve an immense quality of finish.

ENHANCED STEP-BY-STEP DIGITAL INSTRUCTIONS TO EASILY BUILD THE HMS ENDEAVOUR SHIP MODEL

This new scale model of the British ship HMS Endeavour has extensive and precise step-by-step instructions, they are very elaborate and have full color photos. Artesania Latina makes it even easier for the modeler with the inclusion of video tutorials. All on DVD format for the computer.
