We are almost finishing a year 2022 full of surprises. We have created new wooden ship models, innovative tools and we have reissued and improved numerous naval classics from our collection of naval modeling. For many years, there have been several models that we have not been able to manufacture but that have always been in our minds to sell them again. Our modelers friends demanded it that way. This is the case of the latest addition to our extensive catalogue: the renewed Harvey Model Ship (22416) in wood and at 1:60 scale.

Another great modeling kit made by Artesania Latina, this time, with the fabulous American schooner of the 19th century. It is aimed at modelers with at least an intermediate level of skills and knowledge on this wonderful hobby. SANTA ANA MODEL SHIP: KIT CONTENTS OF SPANISH LINE SHIP

The renewed wooden naval modeling kit of the famous Spanish ship of the line Santa Ana at 1:84 scale was the prototype of a series of 8 identical vessels that would constitute the nerve of the Armada. The modeler will be able to find in this new limited edition of the kit hundreds of high quality parts such as strips, rods and sheets of solid wood and plywood of basswood cut by a precision laser. Also, a spectacular 373 x 110 mm brass photo-etched plate with the finest details such as lanterns, railings or details of the cannons.

Once Santa Ana model ship (22905-N) is built, it measures 46.45” (1180 mm) length, 34.25” (870 mm) height and 18.11” (460 mm) width. Its design by means of false keel and frames brings its assembly closer to that of the real vessel. And how to assemble it? The modelers and 3D designers who work at Artesania Latina have redesigned all the old instructions. Colour arrives to the Spanish ship of the 18th century! Waterline Marker for Model Ships: Indispensable Naval Modeling Tool for Boat Hulls

Our modelers friends had been asking us for a waterline marker from our house, from Artesania Latina. They know of the extensive experience of our firm in the creation of effective and efficient ship modeling tools. After our 3D computer designers and our modelers developed a very conscientious joint work, we present our Waterline Marker (27649). You can click here to acquire it quickly and make your own tool workshops more complete. Your wishes are already a reality! We always read the opinions of our customers and fellow fans very seriously!

The waterline marker is one of the most necessary modeling tools during model ship building. This very useful product allows the modeler to mark that line around the ship, also thanks to the pencil included. Includes measurements in both metric and imperial systems. In this sense, it is 23 centimeters or 9 inches tall to be able to perform tasks on different naval miniatures depending on its size. In addition, it has a mechanism that makes it easy to raise, lower and fix the pencil to paint the line where your scale model demands, it is adjustable in height.

The waterline marker is made from precision laser cut plywood parts so assembly is a breeze. We recommend the use of dense cyanoacrylate and accelerator (27650) -sold separately- to glue the different pieces, fix them so that they are much more stable. In short, it makes it easy to mark the line on the hull of the ship model with total precision. In general, it can be used as a gauge to mark lines parallel to the work surface. But… How do you use the waterline marker correctly?

HOW TO USE THE WATERLINE MARKER

First of all, to maintain the ship models stable, position the ship’s keel well on its exhibition base or on our hull support (27011) for models with false keel up to 15.748” (400mm), for sale separately. The stern and bow must be balanced at the proper heights.

On the other hand, the waterline marker helps us navigate by painting the ship from bow to stern to trace that mark. In this way, the waterline is always it remains at the same height and the finishes will be much better when it comes to varnishing or painting with colors. When the ship is positioned, use a level you have at your workshop so that the naval model is also balanced from port to starboard.

Consult the assembly instructions of the vessel. Be sure of the height at which you should paint the water line. Place marker and pencil at desired height without painting. When you’re in the right place, move the marker from bow to stern while paying attention to where the pencil goes. After making that run and you are at the stern, see if that is where you have to start and end the line. If this is not the case, tilt the naval model slightly from the bow or stern to bring it into its correct position.

Now you can plot. Place the pencil against the hull of the ship. Do not force anything and move the marker making sure that the lower base does not rise from where it rests. The fixing wedge that the height tool has will help you to keep the pencil completely in its straight position. Even so press little so that the line is perfect. And ready! Fast and easy!

Sailboat Model Bluenose II: One of the Most Famous Regatta and Fishing Schooners in History

For many of us, this faithful replica in miniature that we present to you is one of the most beautiful on ship models catalog by Artesania Latina. The sailboat model Bluenose II (22453) at 1:75 scale, one of the regatta and fishing schooners most famous in history. HISTORY OF BLUENOSE SCHOONER: THE FASTEST SAILBOAT

Its name is due to the nickname given to the inhabitants of Nova Scotia (blue nose), where the schooner was launched on March 26, 1921. In this sense, it was built at the Smith & Rhuland.

The Bluenose was operating in the Grand Banks region along with dozens of other vessels. This is a peculiar area of the North Atlantic, comprised between the coast of Canada and Labrador. It is subject to periodic mists that make it an Eden for fishermen. There, hake, cod, salmon and tuna are found in prodigious quantities. That is why this schooner is also known as ‘The Queen of the Grand Banks’.

He was going to fish in Newfoundland waters but his destiny changed. It was seen that this fast schooner won all the regattas that were organized on the east coast of the United States. These fishing boats, especially because of their sails, are conditioned to reach great speed.

Thus, the Bluenose was winner of the North Atlantic International Fishermen’s Trophy in all the races held between 1920 and 1938. Captain Angus Walter, at the forefront. In 1942, despite the efforts of this captain and many others who tried to keep the ship in Nova Scotia, the Bluenose was sold to carry cargo in the West Indies. On January 28, 1946, when running aground on a coral reef off the coast of Haiti.

Our 3D designers and our modellers have rethought the aesthetics and assembly of the American schooner model Virginia (22115) at 1:41 scale. The Virginia is a type of vessel known as a ‘schooner’ launched in 1819, as we mentioned earlier. ELECTRIC PLANK BENDER AND PLANK BENDER FOR SHIP MODELING

The electric plank bender 220 volt (27074-1) is a tool for naval modeling and other crafts aimed at modellers in the European market. This wonderful tool allows you to bend and shape the wooden slats up to 3mm thick of your model ships in order to give them the curved shape of your hulls. You will get extraordinary results, guaranteed. Of course, we recommend that, for an optimal result, you moisten the wood beforehand.

For modelers who prefer more artisanal methods when it comes to bending strips and assembling their naval models, we offer the manual plank bender (27024).

This tool uses the technique of making incisions on the curve inner face in order to bend the strip, for example, to assemble the hulls of miniature ships.

NAVAL MODELING TOOLS: MICRO MOULDING SCRAPERS / MICRO SHAPERS

MAGNETIC NAILER FOR MODEL BUILDING

The magnetic nailer (27023) by Artesania Latina is one of the essential naval modeling tools for models that need nails to build. It facilitates fast and easy nailing in wood during the assembly of the hull of model ships, but also when fixing the deck elements. It is important to note that, in order for the tips to stick to the nailer, they must be made of iron or contain iron.

How to use? Apply moderate pressure to the nailer, so you can drive the nail straight and accurately. After entering the wood, we recommend finishing off the tip with the modeller’s hammer (27017) or by tapping the handle of the nailer if the modeling enthusiast has advanced knowledge and skills.

HULL SUPPORT FOR SHIP MODELS

More specific, it’s impossible! The hull support for model ships (27011) is another of the naval modeling tools you need to be able to work comfortably on them. It is highly recommended for holding naval models with a false keel of up to approximately 400 mm. On this aspect, the hull support is valid for the miniature replicas of the 19000 series, 20100 and some of the 20400 of Latin Crafts.

Thanks the hull support you can hold the hull of the boat you are building and kepp immobile, leaving both hands free. It’s great, for example, for keeping the hull level and static when tracing the waterline. It has a pivot point to tilt the helmet to the ideal working position. The hull fastening and the pivot point of the bracket are fixed by means of thumbscrews. Including two metal mini clamps to fix the support to the edge of the work table. That said, it is one of the essential naval modeling tools in your workshop.

SET OF BASIC MODELING TOOLS Nº1

The set of basic tools for naval modeling and other modelling (27000-N) comes with tools to build model ships, planes and trains more easily. Includes cutter, tip nailer, hand drill, oblique cutting pliers, thread tweezers and sanding block.

As we have talked about the nailer previously, we focus on the remaining tools. The no.1 cutter is essential for any modeler and it is characterized by its aluminum handle and interchangeable blade. As for the manual drill, it is perfect for working details on wood and soft plastic such as polystyrene. It has a double jaw and a 1 mm drill bit.

Using the oblique cutting pliers, the modeler can cut wood, plastic and soft metals such as brass. Japanese-style thread shears with very sharp tips are very precise in cutting the threads of boat maneuvers. They are easy to use with two fingers. Lastly, the sanding block leaves the wooden surfaces smooth and homogeneous. It allows to work rounded and sharp shapes.

SET OF PROFESSIONAL MODELING TOOLS Nº1

The set of professional tools for naval modeling and other modelling (27001-N) includes plank bender to bend the wooden strips, tweezers, modeller’s hammer, flat file, flat rule in steel and rounded nose pliers.

The plank bender for bending wood, made of ABS high quality, includes spare blade, in addition to the one it comes with. It is a kind of pliers for bending wooden strips by making incisions on the inside of the curve that you want to achieve. In this way, the modeler can clad the hulls of ships much more easily. On the other hand, straight tweezers help handle small parts in the model building process. Especially when it comes to sticking them.

The modeler’s hammer is also widely used. With measures appropriate to the hobby of modeling, it is made of chromed steel and has an ergonomic handle. The set also includes a flat file to roughen wood, plastic and metal surfaces. A 150 mm steel flat ruler to take measurements or use as a guide. And finally, some round nose pliers to work and shape metal parts, wires and other details of the models.

WATERLINE MARKER FOR MODEL SHIPS

As a novelty in 2022, we present to our modeling friends the waterline marker for model ships (27649). It is an indispensable naval modeling tool to be able to mark the line on the hull with total precision. With a pencil and this product, you’ll save yourself a lot of headaches. In general, it can be used as a gramil to mark lines parallel to the work surface. It is height adjustable and includes measurements in both the metric system and imperial. It is made of laser-cut plywood pieces for optimal assembly – construction required – and holds the pencil with a small wedge.
