Micro Tools for Modeling: The Expected New Product Catalog 2021-2022

Artesania Latina decided three years ago to create a specific collection of small tools: the Micro Tools for Modeling are aimed at the model building in general, and the assembly of ship models in particular, naval modeling. There were five different types of micro tools for modeling, all made of stainless steel, which were part of Artesania Latina’s catalog: the Micro Moulding Scrapers / Micro Shapers A (27300) and Micro Moulding Scrapers B (27301), the Micro Saws (27302), the Micro Drawing Set (27325) and the Wooden Simulation Template (27322).

Micro Tools for Modeling. 2021-2022 Catalog and New Products.

However, after the enormous success among our modelers friends of this type of small size and enormous functionality tool for its precision, Artesania Latina has designed and manufactured five new Micro Tools for Modeling, in order to facilitate to the amateur and professional of this beautiful hobby the daily tasks with the miniature: Micro Mitre Box 45º and 90º (27303), Micro Rigging Tools (27321), Micro Moulding Scrapers C (27304), Micro Easy Ratlines Template 6.5 mm (27311) and Micro Centering Ruler (27326).

MICRO TOOLS FOR MODELING: MITRE BOX FOR PRECISION CUTS (27303)

We show you the first brand new micro tool: the Micro Mitre Box 45º and 90º (27303). This tiny but resistant and effective tools, useful both for modeling and for all types of crafts, allows the modelers to cut 45 and 90 degrees in two materials: plastic and wood.

With total precision, you can obtain the necessary splits so that the parts fit perfectly, such as small strips for a ship model. For this, the Micro Mitre Box reflects two different units of measurement: millimeters and inches.

Micro Tools for Modeling. Micro Mitre Box with Precision Saws.

This very useful mini tool, presented in photo-etched and also made of stainless steel, so its longevity and reliability are assured, is divided into 4 essential elements: the mitre or miter, the fine saw -for plastics-, the coarse saw -magnificent to work the wood- and the MDF base, ideal to protect the area where the cuts are made with this modeling tool. For optimal use of these Micro Tools for Modeling, it is recommended to incorporate the handle of the Universal Cutter # 5.

It is not the only novelty for this year from Artesania Latina if we talk about the commented micro tools for modeling and crafts, then we show you the other great idea in the form of mini utensil.

MICRO OUTILS FOR MODELING: SHIP MODEL RIGGING TOOLS (27321)

It is a Micro Tool specifically for ship modeling, since it only serves to build the riggings of the model ships. We are talking about the Micro Rigging Tools (27321).

The Micro Rigging Tools are made of stainless steel and it comes in photo-etched format, ensuring its functionality and its nonexistent deterioration by rust or the passage of time.

Micro Tools for Modeling. Micro Rigging Tools for Ship Models.

They are used to place each one of the sails and the cotton threads of any naval scale model, any ship model. Specifically, the blister of the Micro Rigging Tools bring the following items: 5 hooks and pushers in order to easily handle the numerous threads and / or to remove any object of the model ship that makes impossible the access to the ship modeler.

These hooks and pushers, in order to be handled or wielded, need another metal attached to the photo-etched: a steel crosspiece to be assembled with each tool. However, we recommend an added handle like the one belonging to the Universal Cutter # 5.

MICRO MOULDING SCRAPERS / MICRO SHAPERS C: SHAPE BOAT MODELS STRIPS (27304)

Another novelty for 2021 in terms of Micro Tools for Modeling are the Micro Moulding Scrapers / Micro Shapers C (27304). They are used to mold wooden and plastic strips of any ship, dollhouse or building model, among other scale models. After the success achieved with the other two types of Micro Shapers, A and B, Artesania Latina team has created this third variant. Thus we expand the number of ways with which the aforementioned materials can be worked.

Micro Moulding Scrapers C / Micro Shapers C.

The Micro Moulding Scrapers C are also essential for naval modeling. This set includes 3 high quality metal plates with about 15 or 16 different shapes for each of these. In this way, the modeler can achieve around 45 varied reliefs thanks to these specific micro tools for modeling. The existing measurements in these Micro Shapers C are the following: 1.5×5 mm, 2×5 mm, 1.5×4 mm, 2×4 mm, 3×4 mm and 5×4 mm.

Also included special trapezoidal shapes for 1×3 mm and 1.5×4 mm strips. Micro Moulding Scrapers C also facilitate working with sticks and rods of different diameters to reinforce them. They are fantastic modeling tools for model ships rigging.

Decorate your wooden and plastic models by shaping the materials you work with. Get beautiful and many elementary motifs with these new Micro Shapers C. To do this, sand the material through which the plate is going to pass in the chosen shape. Then take the Micro Moulding Scrapers C and pass it over the wooden or plastic strip being treated. Just repeat that process several times until you achieve the desired shape and … It’s done!

MICRO TEMPLATES FOR EASY RATLINES

The last of the 2021 novelties of Micro Tools for Modeling made by Artesania Latina are the Micro Templates for Easy Ratlines 5 mm (27310), Micro Templates for Easy Ratlines 6.5 mm (27311) and Micro Templates for Easy Ratlines 8 mm (27312). The set includes three wooden templates with various widths according to the different shrouds. When building any model ship rigging, in addition to making the assembly process easier for you, the micro jigs will save you large amounts of thread when you are focused on the ratlines.

Micro Tools for Modeling. Micro Templates for Easy Ratlines. The Micro Templates for Easy Ratlines are placed behind the shrouds. With the side ‘combs’ a zig-zag thread is passed in front of them. Put everything and add a dot of glue on each joint of the shrouds and on the thread that you have put in front. Next, cut off the excess threads. Much better to make the scales so knot by knot at each joint.

Micro Templates for Easy Ratlines.

Finally, we recommend you watch the video below these lines. There you can see how are the shiny new Micro Tools for Modeling that the Artesania Latina team has designed and created in 2021. Next post, we will talk about all the previous Micro Tools in the catalog, a total success among our modelers friends.

KNOW THE HISTORY OF NORTH AMERICAN STAGECOACH

Advanced and expert modelers of a certain age watched American Wild West movies when they were young or old. That is why they were already crazy about this marvel that is the wooden and metal model of the StageCoach 1848 model at 1/10 scale.

Model Building in Wood and Metal. 1/10 Scale Model StageCoach 1848 (20340).

These vehicles had circulated from 1716 from Boston to Rhode Island, although the design for which our scale model was taken began in 1820 with the addition of an oval box, two doors, an outer driver’s seat and reinforced triple leaf springs.

Ten years later, Concord Coaches company employee JS Abbot and Troy Coaches company made nearly identical modifications simultaneously.

Stagecoaches were about the only way to travel across the United States from the east coast to the west. They were the predecessors of the railroad. They transported both people and mail and the notification of new laws. Specifically, those belonging to the Wells Fargo company also carried money, gold and silver. Since the beginning of the 20th century, exactly since 1910, they are unfortunately no longer manufactured.

Once its history is known, it is the best time to build the 1/10 scale model of the StageCoach 1848 made by Artesania Latina. It is a scale model that will excite any modeler who wants more difficult challenges.

Ship Model Rigging: Assembly of a Wooden Boat Model (V)

The assembly of a wooden ship model rigging, we mean, the sails and the strings that knock the ship into shape. If a modeler assembles the rigging of any type of ship, she/he can surely do it on whatever a sailboat, a vessel, a caravel, a galleon or an online ship with any kind of rigging.

From this moment, we explain what are the steps, in order, that any fan of naval modeling should take when she/he is building the aforementioned rigging of the scale model. The first step, fundamental for the grip of the rigging rope, is the installation of the pink-racks, the fairleads and the chain-wales.

Once these three elements have been placed, the modeler must proceed to pierce the pink-racks in order to implant the belaying pins in them. Of course, we recommend to paint them in the desired color before inserting them.

Next, place the dead eyes in the chain-wales for the wooden ship model rigging. These will hold the shroud, which is the tensioning cable that passes through the top so that the mast is straight, and the lanyard, which will keep the shroud in balance with tension.

HOW TO ASSEMBLY THE MASTS

The next step is the masts assembly. You should proceed to assemble all the wooden ship model masts – don´t forget the bowsprit – and put their respective tops.

Assembly of a wooden ship model rigging: masts.

Later, start preparing the yards, the booms and the gaff rig mast.

Assembly of a wooden ship model rigging: yards, booms and gaff rig mast.

Once they are all built, place the masts on the boat. Artesania Latina facilitates the work thanks to the holes through which to introduce the masts so that there is no doubt.

Assembly of a wooden ship model rigging: positioning of the masts.

From now, we must begin to tie, balance and tighten the different masts. To do this, we start with the foremast and the main mast, tied with the stays from under the top to the bowsprit (almost horizontal spur that comes out of the bow), and with the mizzen mast, also with stays are up to the base of the main mast. Then, two stays come from the upper crosstree of the foremast and main mast, the first to the bowsprit and the second to the foremast.

CONSTRUCTION OF SHIP MODEL RIGGING: SHROUDS

The next assembly action of any naval modeling kit is the placement of the shrouds, for which, first, you must also build the dead eyes with their lanyards and their chain-plates, these ones are hooked to the hull. As a tip, we can recommend that they should be installed one by one, alternating them on each side of the ship model. If the modeler does not do it this way, the mast could lose its perfect vertical position.

Once this action is done, the modeler must assemble the strings of the so-called ratlines, the horizontal strings perpendicular to the shrouds. We recommend the use of two clamps, one on the left side and one on the right side of the shrouds group, in order to be able to accurately put the aforementioned ratlines.

It is the moment when the shrouds are installed, in this case the upper ones, and their corresponding ratlines.

Next, the jib-boom should be placed (if the wooden ship model had it) with its two strings so that it is completely fixed. Of course, all the rigging screws of the boat and the bowsprit standing rigging, as it has been done with the jib-boom.

HOW TO BUILD THE RUNNING RIGGING ON A SHIP MODEL

At this point on the assembly process, the modeler would have finished all the so-called standing rigging, and now she/he would have to put all the running rigging with all its yards and sails. Then, the mizzen mast latin sail would be the first to be placed.

Assembly of a wooden ship model rigging: latin sail.

It is the turn of the spritsail, which is located on the bowsprit.

Assembly of a wooden ship model rigging: spritsail.

To give way, just later, to the stay sail and the fore top sail.

Assembly of a wooden ship model rigging: stay sail and fore top sail.

Of course, it’s time for the main sail and the main top sail.

Assembly of a wooden ship model rigging: main sail and main top sail.

The last step to finish the ship model rigging and, specifically, the running rigging is the installation of the bowlines on the bow, that is, the ends or moorings of the mentioned area. They were used in square sailboats to withstand the leeches of the bow sails when sailing towards windward.

Cover the Model Ship Hull: Assembly of a Wooden Boat Model (IV)

We have to cover the model ship hull during the assembly of a wooden naval model, but before we have to sand the frames. Specifically, its more square edges, in order to make them blunt so that, later, they fit better with the cover as they are a little curved. To do this, you can use our sanding block and sandpaper.

In this image, how to sand the ship frames of a naval modeling kit.

Later, proceed to cover the deck with wood veneer with glue. We recommend our dense cyanoacrylate and spray accelerator or the white glue. You can also make it with nails, a magnetic nailer and a modeler’s hammer. It all depends on the age and make of the naval scale model you have purchased, or the method you like best.

In this image, how to cover the ship deck of a naval modeling kit.

It is time to start covering the boat hull with, in this case, the first layer of wooden strips, as can be seen in the image below. Artesanía Latina electric plank bender tool will help you shape the strips. Wet the strips for at least half an hour and apply the heat of the aforementioned tool to shape them. You can also use the manual plank bender tool.

In this image, how to cover model ship hull from a naval modeling kit.

Then, make the holes where the cannons will come out, that is, the cannon ports, as we said, once you have built the first layer of the hull cover. We recommend the use of a template so that the distance between the loop-holes is the same and to facilitate this thorough work. We also recommend tools like drill, cutter and file.

COVER MODEL SHIP HULL: SANDING AND VARNISHING

When the hull cover is finished, sand the entire hull gently and varnish it. Depending on the ship model being worked, some will require that your hull be painted with some color and some brush.

In this image, how to cover model ship hull from a naval modeling kit.

You already have the ship model ready for the rigging installation. This process will be seen in the next post dedicated to any wooden model ship building process. In this sense, Artesania Latina‘s ship modeling kits are the best in value for money.

Ship Hull Construction: Assembly of a Wooden Boat Model (III)

Once the modeler who starts in the world of ship modeling has prepared the workshop and has supplied the necessary tools for modeling according to the skill level, the ship model lover can begin to know everything about the ship hull construction of the boat model thanks to this post.

On this way, the steps that will be undertaken to carry out this purpose are divided as follows. Firstly, we emphasize that it is necessary to check the contents of the modeling kit, so that the modeler becomes familiar with the shapes of the different parts. Also, as most of these kits, in this case ship modeling, have a list of parts, we recommend that you make sure that all parts are present. It is also convenient to see if it brings all the plans and instructions for its construction. (Artesania Latina modeling kits bring them on DVD format).

Naval modeling. Wooden Ship Model Captain Boat Santisima Trinidad (19014).

SHIP HULL CONSTRUCTION: KEEL AND FRAMES OF THE SHIP MODEL

The next action would be the assembly of the keel. It is the fundamental area of the ship’s model structure. It goes from the bow to the stern of the ship longitudinally on the exact center of the model, since everything will be built from this part.

Ship Hull Construction. Assembly of the Wooden Naval Model Keel.

Remember to take the drawings that show the hull assembly and hang them in front of you, at your workshop. On this way, you can quickly and clearly see how to assemble each part.

Ship Hull Construction. Plan for the Assembly of the Wooden Ship Model San Juan Nepomuceno (22860).

The next step would be to adjust the frames to the keel, although the modeler must first make sure that they are not broken. The good thing about Artesania Latina modeling kits is that you don’t have to file the frames before they are placed. They are ready to fit. Just do not paste them until you see that, once placed, all are perfectly.

Ship Hull Construction. Adjustment of the Frames on the Assembly of the Wooden Ship Model.

ASSEMBLY OF SHIP MODEL DECK AND MASTS

Afterwards, the modeler must check and fit the decks of the wooden ship model. This action has a great relevance since the decks will make the keel straight, and it help align the frames.

Small scale models, usually aimed at beginner modelers, only have one deck, thus facilitating the work of the novice. Never force the cover on the frames when assembling it, be very careful, or it will yield and damage the hull construction.

Fitting the Decks on the Assembly of the Wooden Ship Model.

As for the installation of the masts, Artesania Latina’s ship miniatures facilitate the assembly to the modelers, because they will only have to insert the masts through holes arranged for it on the deck and the keel. Speaking about other brands, you have to put some wooden blocks to hold the mâsts. But we will comment this later, although we show you below where they would be inserted.

Assembly of the Masts on a Wooden Ship Model.

SHIP HULL CONSTRUCTION: BOW AND STERN OF THE NAVAL MODEL

It is time to assemble and fit the bow and stern parts – the stern reinforcement is not necessary on Artesania Latina’s boat models because it comes to ‘die’ at the end of the last frame-, which will provide a solid base to the wooden strips that will finally cover the hull. The parts provided must be symmetrical and follow the shape of the mentioned hull of the wooden ship model.

Placement of Bow and Stern Parts on the Wooden Ship Model Assembly.

Once you have seen the good disposition of the frames and that the decks are not bent or sunk, proceed to glue them, as well as the rest of the ship built, with cyanoacrylate for porous materials because you are working with wood. Once you have pasted everything, let it dry for at least twenty four hours. We will speak about more steps for ship hull construction on next post.

Buy Modeling Tools: How to Build a Ship Model Made of Wood (Part II)

Buy modeling tools because it is essential for the construction of any ship model. The modeler should know that it is better to spend a little more money on quality tools than buying the cheapest ones on the market. If you choose this last alternative, you could suffer many unwanted setbacks. They are the best friends of the modeler, do not skimp on money in these ones. Good tools for naval modeling will improve the modeler skills, save time and effort, and keep the modeler positive attitude to any kind of challenge.

Buy modeling tools. Specific Modeling Tool Sets.

Like Artesania Latina modeling toolkits, these could be classified into three types: basic, intermediate and expert.

BUY MODELING TOOLS FOR BEGINNERS

The basic tools are essential to build any type of model, without these ones it would be like building a house without cement, concrete or bricks. We list them here: pliers with different shapes; carpenter’s hammer with small ball; set of saws; chisel; cutters and blades; files; drills and drill bits; electric plank bender or the hand one; rasp; needle threader; tweezers; rules, bevels and compass; awl; clamps and sergeants; sanding block and sandpapers; brushes; metal brush; scissors; vise; glue (cyanoacrylate) or white glue; nailer; pins and nails.

MODELING TOOLS FOR INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

Buy modeling tools for intermediate level will enable you to work better, especially in more difficult scale ship models, but you must make a greater investment, so if you want to try models of that skill before spending a large amount of money on these tools it would be a good idea: electric drill – better with speed modulator-; electric soldering iron; miter box for cutting; rotary table; waterline marker; universal bench screw; magnifying glasses with LED light and without it; hull support; cutting template for the cover and template for the rigging – not necessary on Artesania Latina models-; and brackets for precision drilling.

Buy modeling tools. Intermediate Level Tools.

BUY MODELING TOOLS FOR EXPERTS

Speaking about the modeling tools for experts – if the model is built from 0 without any modeling kit -, these ones require greater skills by the modeler: electric bench sander with disc and belt; electric bench grinder; lathe; mini vacuum cleaner; electric marquetry saw; and electric disc saws.

Buy modeling tools. Modeling Tools for Experts.

There are also specific micro tools or mini tools for modeling created by Artesania Latina that any modeler must have in the workshop. They are the Micro Tools: micro moulding scrapers / micro shapers, micro saws, micro rules and micro simulation template in wood, to which we will add two more, it will be a surprise!

Buy modeling tools. Specific Micro Tools for Modeling.

TOOLS ORGANIZATION AND MODELER’S WORKSHOP

It is time to organize all the modeling tools and create a workspace, so we will now talk about the modeler’s workshop. This should be as large as possible to be able to build any size of ship model and to house all the necessary tools.

It is convenient that the modeler workshop also has drawers for storing, for example, small tools such as drill bits and blades, and tiny parts of the scale model that is intended to be built so that they do not get lost. You can place the drawers on the table at the ends or behind.

Or if you do not have these, we offer you another Artesania Latina’s wonderful product: the Compact Modeler Workbench and the Paints Organizer.

Compact Workshop (27648) and Modeler's Paintings and Tools Organizer (27648P).

Remember, when you assemble your modeling workshop, arrange the plugs in front of you so that when you use the power tools, the cables reach your work area. Once the day is over, you can unplug them or disconnect them if you use a power strip with switch. Also, on the front, hang in front of where your model is assembling the scale model planes, so you can continually consult any questions about its assembly.

PROTECTION AND GOOD LIGHTNING FOR BUILDING MODELS

It is also important that you protect your work table if you do not want to be full of grooves and holes in the future, therefore, use cutting mats such as these ones: sizes A2, A3 and A4, depending on your needs.

Cutting Mats A2, A3 and A4 to protect the work table.

As for the lighting that the room and the table where the modeler works should have, we recommend that you put two white light LED bulbs of 12 watts on the ceiling, and as a direct table light a white light LED bulb, but in this case 2/5 watts. For this last lighting, we strongly recommend our reading lamp with magnifying glass, 60 white LED lights and three magnifications.

Reading Lamp with 60 LED & Magnifying Glass 3x.

Optimum ventilation is essential when you are working at your workshop, keep in mind that you will continually use products with chemicals such as cyanoacrylates – glues -, white glues, varnishes, paints and solvents. If you are very far from a window, it would be convenient to put a fan, odors and fumes exhaust like those that are usually placed in the bathrooms near your mounting area.

Another need for the modeler’s workshop, if you do not live alone, is the installation of a small sink for rinsing, because it is not good idea to clean the products in a place like the kitchen or bathroom if you live with more people.

Finally, a hung plank, facing the vision of the modeler, to place the tools you usually use would facilitate your work and save efforts. Live the ship modeling with us!

Building a Ship Model Made of Wood (Part I): Choice of the Modeling Kit

The writing of this post is motivated to help new modelers. Building a ship model made of wood is what you will know, so we are going to introduce you on ship modeling. Of course, you can also clarify some concepts to modelers already initiated or provide other ideas that were still unknown. These two actions will be developed thanks to the fifty years of life and experience of the most important company in the world in naval modeling. Artesania Latina, present since 1970.Artesania Latina. More than 50 years building models.

A built scale ship model represents the effort and perseverance of a modeler to achieve the final result. It will take you many hours, you will encounter conflicting emotions, being positive when successes or negatives when some part of the assembly presents greater difficulties.

Ship Modeling. Wooden ship model of the Galleon San Francisco II 1/90 (22452N).

In this sense, the best modeling tool that you can use is not made of metal or plastic or wood. It will be the dedication that the modeler gives to the modeler, the passion and perseverance you put. Here we will show you how to build step-by-step a ship miniature. What tools to choose, how to organize and adapt a workshop, what ship modeling kit to choose. Everything so that in the end you spend more hours showing the final product created, this is, the ship model you have built, than assembling it.

Ship Modeling. Wooden ship model of the Galleon San Francisco II 1/90 (22452N).

Building a ship model made of wood should be shared with the family, involving their partners in the project, whether women or men. It also can be used for encouraging children to help in any aspect of this wonderful hobby. The modeler can thus keep alive the art of assembling ship models for another generation.

Children are also learning how to assemble a wooden model ship with junior kits.

CHOICE OF THE RIGHT WOODEN SHIP MODEL

The first thing that a future modeler must face – or one already with knowledge in naval modeling – is the choice of the ship model that you will built. How to choose the ideal kit and modeling tools for each of us? It is essential that you like a lot the ship scale model you choose, the decision must be based on your mood and the pleasure that you think it will report once the model is finished.

How to build a wooden model ship. Choose your modeling kit and tools wisely.

Of course, you should also ask yourself these questions. How much money do you want to spend? What experience do you have in naval modeling? Which workshop do you have or do you want to create? What types of ship attract you? How much time can you spend on your modeling workshop to assemble the miniature?

The modeler looks for a challenge, but not a huge frustration, so it is recommended that the beginner thinks about the simplest for your first assembly. We do not recommend very complicated scale models for those who intend to start on this hobby. Finally they will not finish building them, as can be the one in the image below, for advanced modelers.

CATALOG OF WOODEN SHIP MODELS FOR BEGINNERS

Therefore, we recommend simple, small and attractive ship models for beginners: a boat with a single deck, one or two masts and a rigging as simple as possible. Examples can be our model ships such as the Viking (19001-N), Swift (22110-N), Providence (19018), Elcano lifeboat (19019), Provençale (19017), the lifeboat of the Titanic (19016), the boat of the captain of the HMS Bounty (19004), the french doris Saint Malo (19010), the scallop fishing boat Bon Retour (19007) or captain’s boat of Santisima Trinidad (19014), among many other miniatures.

BUILDING A SHIP MODEL MADE OF WOOD: QUALITY OF COMPONENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS

What should you look for, then, in a naval modeling kit? Logically, you may not even be a scholar in the matter, but you don´t need it to choose a good one. Just check the quality of its contents once you have the box in your hands and that all the kit parts from the parts list are there.

If any part is missing, such as the Artesania Latina kits have a two-year warranty. Our warehouse will be immediately replenished once the purchase ticket has been submitted without any extra cost or shipping. Our parts are high quality, made of birch or lime wood, of stainless steel photo-etched and of die-cast.

BUILDING A SHIP MODEL MADE OF WOOD: WHAT KIND OF HULL TO CHOOSE

Speaking of the different hull types of the ship models, you will find three different. Firstly, the one piece solids – they don´t need to be built, the beginner does not acquire experience in the assembly of the hull-. Secondly, those that have a structure of frames to assemble and we must put the wooden strips on that structure from a pre-cut laser board – most of those manufactured by Artesania Latina, the one that provides the most knowledge and the most real-. Finally, those that, on the structure, are placed large parts to build the hull.

Renewed Santa Maria Caravel Model: More Details, Consistency and Lightness (II)

The previous post announced one of the magnificent novelties on Artesanía Latina stock. The renewed Santa Maria Ship Model at 1/65 scale. We now continue with our modelers explanation about how the design and construction process of this fantastic naval replica has been. We also talk about the great improvements in the decoration of the same, keep reading!

In relation to this, an inconvenience that was present in the old model of this replica and that produced headaches to our model friends has been solved. “The mainmast of the ship has been made deeper to improve its grip. The deck hole where the mast was did not fit completely, a defect that was already completely corrected”, says.

Our team adds the following: “We have modified the mainmast platform by implementing its design with photo-etched. All the platforms have been divided into several parts for the enjoyment of the modeler during the assembly and to provide greater realism to the model”.

IMPROVEMENTS ON THE DECORATION OF THE CARAVEL MODEL

During the redesigning process in 3D of Santa Maria Ship Model, after the advice of the modelers, several improvements have been made regarding the decoration and details of this model.

One of the first measures adopted was the inclusion of a lifeboat that could be built with frames and hull lining in wood. We suppressed the precedent that was made of die-cast in one part”, explains Artesania Latina team. They also add that “this way, the modeler’s experience with the ship miniature is more satisfying and fun. In addition to the fact that in the 15th century there was no type of boat made of metal”.

Another improved detail is the introduction of supports for the barrels and more realistic cannons -with their bullets-. On the new version of the famous ship they have been divided into two parts. “The gun carriage is made of wood while the cane, in metal”, concrete our professionals.

Likewise, the colors of the rubbing strikes, the handrails, the stern window doors and the shields, among other accessories, have also been changed to provide a beautiful decorative touch to the boat that sailed the Atlantic more than five centuries ago.

A SPECTACULAR RENOVATION FOR THE SANTA MARIA CARAVEL MODEL

The final result of all the undertaken work for more than a year by our designers and modelers is a faithful reproduction of the original Santa Maria Caravel Model: each element is reproduced in its original material (cannons, sails, rigging …) to achieve a classic boat, but with finishes chords to 2020, which will delight our modeling friends, the followers of the world reference brand on naval modeling: Artesania Latina.

You can get more realism for your ship models ordering the Set of 10 Metal Figures for Caravels and Galleons, which is offered separately from the model.

Messerschmitt BF109G Fighter Model: Aircraft Modeling Revolution (II)

Our modelers continue with the second part of the post about the premium scale model of the famous German Messerschmitt BF109G fighter. They add that “the structure of the fuselage has been reinforced as a grid as on the tail. Then, we give a great strength, firmness and longevity to the BF109G model. In this way, lovers of aircraft modeling who assemble this replica will see that many parts are fully coupled. That is because it has tabs and grooves that almost make the use of glue unnecessary.

One of the fabulous features of the Messerschmitt BF109G, German fighter metal and plastic model is the inclusion of an electronic system for the propeller movement and for the LED position and existing control panel in the cabin. According to Artesania Latina’s team, this design work has been quite difficult because “it has been necessary to introduce the entire electrical system inside the tank with a ‘L’ form, which is located just below the pilot seat.”

In addition, for the wiring to be quite imperceptible, “the arrangement of the cable has been taken care of in detail, because a grayish color similar to steel has been chosen and it has been arranged in parallel to the wing grids and the fuselage”, says one of our experts. Precisely, the metal parts to build these area and the rest of the structure come in stainless steel photo-etched and injected die-cast.

FAITHFUL REPLICA WITH GREAT REALISM: MESSERSCHMITT BF109G MODEL

Impressive its great realism! It has mobile parts, such as its manual retractable landing gears; its practicable cockpit dome; and its practicable ailerons, flaps and rudder.

The amount of detail that 3D designers have included in this aviation modeling artwork is very high: the model of the BF 109 has radio, battery, oscilloscope and oxygen cylinders, among other decoration accessories.
